Michal Krcmar changing State Opera Ballet for Helsinki

June 26, 2011 0:00 Editors

Only two years ago, left the Prague Conservatory, with Alumni award in 2009. But during the school already garnered awards at home and abroad, had considerable success in the last season of Bohemia Ballet as a soloist. When last September signed a solo contract in the State Opera Ballet, suddenly there became one of its most prominent faces. Unfortunately, not for long. The uncertainties of the future of the Prague State Opera certainly done his and one of the biggest talents in recent years, jednadvacetiletý Michal Krcmar going abroad, where he immediately took all ten.

Your current solo contract at the Prague State Opera is actually the first engagement with the "real" theater. Tell me, what is it in your experience of twenty-one experience such existential uncertainty?

I have to admit that I actually have not had this feeling. In December last year, before all this nervousness came, I had signed a solo contract by the Finnish National Ballet in Helsinki. I came to the head of the ballet mistress Hana Vláčilová and I told her that next season I would like to start dancing in Helsinki. Also, I had suggested my host for the season 2011/2012, and she agreed. Unfortunately, it does not depend on us, so we'll see how it goes with hosting. I am Mr. Andrew Black at the premiere of Giselle at the beginning of April this year, designed by my hosting free of charge.

I can not help asking the recent Prague State Opera Gala Concert, organized for the fans, which was very emotional atmosphere, and where you are too conspicuous. What was the mood in the backstage? How did you personally perceive the atmosphere?

Concert atmosphere was indescribable. I have to admit that I had a huge fright. At the gala, I participated dance, choreography and dramaturgy. Great experience for me was working with Barbara Kohoutková that is a true professional and I would like it this way once again thank you. What I was really surprised, it was a collaboration with conductor Jan Latham-Koenig, with whom I spent hours in surgery preparations ballet numbers. I kept repeating: "I want to be perfectly prepared and know your every move."

After months of waiting, the future is already clear a few days - even for the State Opera ballet it means the connection is set in the National Zuskovým. He said the dancers in your theater have someone from the outside - either from the Ministry or the National Theatre, what exactly does it all mean for you? How will the connection be? How will it be with your contract? Whether the switch automatically or will there be any auditions?

I still do not know anything, and I think my colleagues are doing likewise. We hear a very different message, but still nothing concrete and no plan. It is at the dancers quite annoying, since auditions held in theaters at the beginning of the year, not at the beginning of the season. The contracts mention. From my perspective, in the future "National Ballet" does not allow for external contracts ballet dancers from Prague State Opera. These external contract may be terminated by the hour without any claims.

What is the general mood among your colleagues in the file?

I think everything has already been said ...

It is not clear at this time what will happen to the State Opera Ballet productions after its cancellation? They will be playing under the auspices of the National Theatre next? Maybe Cinderella and Swan Lake, although National has his or Sleeping Beauty, which is there also going to be shown?

I guess I'm not the one, who should answer this question, but I think that the production of the same title, even if they are different, the State Opera canceled and left with only minor part of a title. But note that this is just my assumption.

It will not have a connection after all and their positive aspects? Maybe in the form of better conditions for work? Wider repertoire? Or that combined ballet dancers will have more? That will be more competition, which is never a bad thing?

I definitely think that it will have its positives. Both sets of conditions are good, even today, the State Opera ballet even a little better because it has a stage and ballet theaters between them accessible corridor between buildings. Anenský monastery has larger rooms again. I think that the future "national ballet" should put greater emphasis on classical ballet repertoire, preserve traditions and protect her. The current repertoire is an integral part of world files, there is the possibility of creative work and discovering new possibilities and to dance it belongs. Some people say keep rovnováchu, I say a little more than a classic modernism, and 60 to 40

Activities to maintain separate State Opera continue. Really do not believe anyone from your theater, the verdict to revoke the autonomy still manages to reverse it?

Hope dies last ... For myself I can only say žejsem glad I worked at the State Opera, there was a great atmosphere, excellent cooperation and communication between the ballet, opera and orchestra. I met a lot of great people and I am proud to say that I danced so beautiful roles of the classical ballet in the most beautiful theater in the Czech Republic.

Regardless of all this: You are standing at the beginning of his career. Do you have an idea of where you would like to follow through?

The idea definitely got its aims, which propel me forward. My ambitions are high and I would hate to speak too soon, or threaten it in the bud. In addition, could also look too confident.

Thanks for the interview and Helsinki luck!
